And now the moment we have been waiting for...
introducing...
the one...
the only...
White Lightning!!!
Inside it's fitted out with all the bedding, cupboards, and cooking necessities including pots and pans, plates etc(even a coffee press for me) and cook stove.
We have been just about two weeks in Melbourne and at last we have our new wheels. White Lightning is a 1993 Toyota Commuter Van, with a 5 speed manual, 2.4 L gas engine that has been fitted out as a campervan...way more room than our tent and Deep Purple(Subaru).
We are off toTasmania tomorrow on the ferry(11 hours) we can't wait. We have been sitting in the city for too long, who knew it would be so complicated to buy and register a car here. It took us a while to find a van that we liked(believe me we looked at a lot of duds!). We had the van checked out by a mechanic to make sure it was road worthy(a necessity here)then we stood in line to pay to make an appointment to make an appointment to register and get plates. It really is complicated and when all was said and done it cost us close to $1000 just to change the registation. We love our new van. On the road again!
And you want to know something funny? Australia was burning up, forrest fires running rampant-not a drop of rain in months and in less than a week after we stepped foot on terra firma, it's raining, once again on our tails the clouds are forming...at least it's a warm rain.
